A paradox is a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth. I stole this paradox from my coach today. The workout of the day was 3 rounds of a metabolic workout that consisted of 7 stations. We were to spend 30 seconds at each station with a 15 second break in between each station. After round 2 she shocked us all by stopping the clocked. She noticed we were losing focus. We were struggling with our form and or breaks were lasting more than 15 seconds. We needed more time to adjust our minds, give ourselves a timeout and regain composure. We were thankful for the break and “kilt” the last round.
I had a conversation last month that stopped my clocked. The conversation had me shocked, scared, and second guessing my experience and yes, even my faith. Although I was still going through the motions, I knew I wanted to do more and God actually gave me exactly what I asked for, yet the pause was numbing. Stopping the clock gave me the nudge I needed to regain composure, get back on track and shift my attention and thinking.
I believe Fantasia said it best – "Sometimes you gotta lose to win again". Sometimes just going through the gestures don’t get you the results you’re looking for. We all have or should have goals we’re wanting to obtain. But there are people, places and things in our life we have to quit or “stop the clock” to get back on the right track. There should be no shame in admitting to a mistake or needing to adjust and re-thinkng some things in areas of our lives. After all, we really are only admitting that we are now wiser than we once were.
Winners do quit, but they quit to start something new. And when they find what they like, they then do that extremely well and with all their energy.
Is it time for you to quit something to start something new? I’d love to hear from you.
