Squirrels are familiar to almost everyone. They are a family of rodents that come in various shapes, sizes and colors. Ground squirrels, flying squirrels and tree squirrels, which are most commonly seen by everyone. Though they are terrific climbers, these squirrels do come to the ground in search of food such as nuts, acorns, berries, and flowers. In fact, when my sister was in college, we visited her on Family Day. As we walked around the campus she informed us the squirrels thought they were also students of OU. They walked trails alone side us, and occasionally crossed in front of us causing us to yield to their right of way.
Most of you have probably encountered a situation where you're driving through your neighborhood at about 40-45MPH and out of nowhere a small tree squirrel darts halfway across the street in front of you and then at the very last minute determines it's unsafe to cross and turn back around! You slam on your brakes, swerve into oncoming traffic; throw all the kids from the back seat to the front to avoid this tiny little creature, who had no idea of the damage it almost caused. Or, worse case you actually ran over him and now your ENTIRE day is ruined! The image of his cute little face or the sound of your front tire crushing his little body plays over and over in your mind for days!
Early Saturday mornings, John and I enjoy a 10-14 mile bike ride along The Trinity Trails. The Trinity River Trail is a 17.7 mile heavily trafficked point-to-point trail located near Fort Worth, TX that features a river and is good for cycling, running and various outdoor activities . Occasionally, as we reach a peak of about 16mph, with our bodies close to the bar, elbows tucked to slice more easily into the wind, out of nowhere, a squirrel runs across our trail!
I hate Squirrels on the Trail!
This blog is about how situations come along when we least expect them. Life is going GREAT! Kids are finally acting right, marriage is vast, job is going great - then BAM out of NO where.. A Squirrel runs across your trail!
